Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church is located on Church Street in the town of Saint Marys Pennsylvania. The church was founded in 1842 to serve local settlers from Germany. The present church building was constructed in 1852. The parish was initially staffed by priests of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, also known as the Redemptorists. One of these Redemptorist priests was Saint John Neumann, who later became the bishop of Philadelphia. By the end of the 19th century, however, it began to be administered by Benedictine priests from Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. This is still the case today.
The interior of the church is beautifully decorated with a large high altar and two ornate side altars. The ceilings of both the sanctuary and the nave have large painted murals.
After more than 180 years Saint Mary's is still an active parish serving the people of Saint Marys.
