This bat box is located in Joseph F. William Park off Lakeshore Road east of Cicero, NY.
The bat box was built by Eagle Scout R. Blackburn of Troop 33 based in Cicero, NY. It was completed in 2012 as his Eagle Scout Project.
The accompanying sign lists some interesting facts!
"Atop this 25ft telephone pole is a large 4-chamber bat house. This bat house will house up to 1000 bats. It weighs 75 pounds empty and will only weigh an additional 30 pounds when filled with bats. Local species that may make this house their home include the Northern Bat, Little Brown Bat, Indian Bat, Big Brown Bat, Red Bat, Hoary Bat and the Silver Haired Bat. The bat houses were installed for natural mosquito control. A Single bat can eat 1000 mosquitos per night. Bats are a safe control method; they carry few diseases and have no interest in people. Come watch the bats at dusk and dawn."
