King Sejong the Great (April 10, 1397 - Feb. 17, 1450) was not only the inventor of the Korean alphabet, but also encouraged advances in science and technology.

In front of the statue are also some replicas of objects made during his reign.

Among them is a rotatable Korean armillary sphere first created by scientist Jang Yeong-sil during the reign of King Sejong.

"Armillary sphere, early astronomical device for representing the great circles of the heavens, including in the most elaborate instruments the horizon, meridian, Equator, tropics, polar circles, and an ecliptic hoop. The sphere is a skeleton celestial globe, with circles divided into degrees for angular measurement. In the 17th and 18th centuries such models—either suspended, rested on a stand, or affixed to a handle—were used to show the difference between the Ptolemaic theory of a central Earth and the Copernican theory of a central Sun."

Scientific Principle(s) being demonstrated: It is used to show the apparent movement of the stars, the Sun and the ecliptic around the Earth. Briefly explain if the experiment was effective for you. Could it have been better?: I thought it was a rotatable sundial, back home I found out it turned out to be an armillary sphere.
