The statue of a Union soldier holding a rifle standing near a tree stump is at the top of the monument. On the monument sides are images of crossed cannons with an anchor below them, a copy of a G.A.R. medal with a “Y” in the star, and inscriptions on two sides.
The inscriptions on sides state: 



On the top panel 

“Jewell Post

Dept. of Michigan 
G.A.R. ”

and below the panel 

“Presented by 
Jewell Corps
W.R.C. No. 61.”

and on the second side panel 
(wrapped around a wreath)
