One may be forgiven if their first impression here is that of a town named after a big, striped cat. Such was not the case, it turns out.

The postcard shows the Tiger Store, then a grocery store, in 1912. Note the old gas pump under the "Standard Dealer" sign .The postcard in black and white and Tiger Store was restored in 2000. We asked about a postcard, and after digging through some boxes happened to find a supply, we purchased the card for 50¢.
Tiger Historical Center & Museum is also a Visitor Information Center, Gift Shop and Rest Area. It is noteworthy to note that this is the very last of what remains of Tiger. Only the ghosts and tourists frequent this location.
Tiger Store was built in 1912 and the town was named by George Tiger, one of the oldest settlers in the area and one time Postmaster. He arrived in 1889, and established a riverboat landing, and people called it "Tiger's Landing". George was a community minded person, sharing his home with newcomers, assisting in clearing land and building homes and roads.
