"Construite en 1999 cette fontaine et son bassin mettent en valeur la grande paroi rocheuse qui est l’ancien front de taille d’une carrière gallo-romaine.
Celle-ci fut exploitée à l’époque romaine, lors de la construction de la capitale des Osismes « Vorgium » (Carhaix) . Elle fournissait les pierres en gros appareils, transportées par voie terrestre et utilisées pour les éléments architecturaux de la ville.
L’importance de la carrière a occasionné la venue de chercheurs qui ont déterminé, grâce aux traces sur la roche, le mode d’extraction employé par les ouvriers il y’a un peu moins de 2000 ans.
Ancienne trêve de Ploërdut, Locuon a été érigé en paroisse en 1853, tout en restant dépendante de la commune. Le nom « Locuon » provient de la nombreuse famille des LOC, signifiant « lieux consacrés »
Dans l’enceinte de la carrière se trouve la chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Fosse qui est une fondation des seigneurs de Kerfandol. Elle a probablement été reconstruite au XVIIème siècle avec des ré-emplois d’un édifice du XVIème. On accède à la chapelle par un majestueux escalier de granit, dont une statue sans tête orne le bas du rampant. Il s’agirait d’une déesse antique. La façade de la chapelle est sculptée d’un bas relief représentant saint Roch, invoqué contre la peste dès le XVème siècle et lié aux propriétés miraculeuses supposées de la fontaine. Le mur sud est décoré du blason des Lescobic de Kerfandol sur lequel on retrouve un sanglier.
Toute une population de salamandres et tritons palmés se reproduisent chaque année dans le bassin de la fontaine ou tout à côté." (

(EN) "Built in 1999, this fountain and its basin highlight the large rock wall which is the former working face of a Gallo-Roman quarry.
This was exploited during the Roman era, during the construction of the capital of the Osismes “Vorgium” (Carhaix). It supplied the stones in large devices, transported by land and used for the architectural elements of the city.
The importance of the quarry led to the arrival of researchers who determined, thanks to the traces on the rock, the method of extraction used by the workers a little less than 2000 years ago.
Former truce of Ploërdut, Locuon was made a parish in 1853, while remaining dependent on the commune. The name “Locuon” comes from the large family of LOC, meaning “consecrated places”
Within the quarry is the Notre-Dame-de-la-Fosse chapel which is a foundation of the lords of Kerfandol. It was probably rebuilt in the 17th century with re-uses of a 16th century building. The chapel is accessed by a majestic granite staircase, with a headless statue adorning the bottom of the staircase. It would be an ancient goddess. The facade of the chapel is sculpted with a bas relief representing Saint Roch, invoked against the plague since the 15th century and linked to the supposed miraculous properties of the fountain. The south wall is decorated with the coat of arms of the Lescobic de Kerfandol on which we find a wild boar.
A whole population of salamanders and webbed newts breed every year in the fountain basin or right next to it." (
