Il n'avait que quatre ans lors de la création du Brive-Festival. Ce jeudi, il ouvre les festivités. "Je fais les choses un peu à l'envers, mais finalement je me retrouve là où j'ai toujours voulu être." Après une tournée en 2018 au Japon, en Malaisie ou encore aux Philippines, le DJ corrézien rentre à la maison. "Ça fait beaucoup d'émotions, ma famille sera là avec mon père qui ne m'a jamais vu encore sur scène. C'est un peu de stress bien sûr parce que c'est chez moi, mais sans stress il n'y a pas d'engouement."

A la base je faisais du foot.
Entre pop-électro et tech-house, Rivo, c'est l'histoire d'un autodidacte, tombé dans la marmite électronique à 15 ans, par hasard. "A la base, je faisais du foot, puis je me suis blessé, et j'ai commencé à trainer sur YouTube un jour. C'est là que je suis tombé sur un live de David Guetta", se souvient l'artiste, la bouche en cœur.
Amateur plutôt de rap jusqu'alors, le jeune adolescent de l'époque s'essaye au genre électro "au pif", dans sa chambre. Muni d'un logiciel basique, Deniz Bizarra Simsek, de son vrai nom, se transforme alors petit à petit en Rivo. "Je voulais juste un nom en quatre lettres. J'ai vu la plaque rue de Rivoli, j'ai enlevé le "li" je trouvais que ça rendait bien", ponctue-t-il d'un ton léger.

Comme dans un film
S'en suit alors une ascension inattendue digne d'un biopic Hollywoodien. "Il n'a même jamais fait de solfège ou jouer d'un instrument de sa vie!", s'étonne encore son manager Malik Eddibi depuis un an. "Dans ma chambre, je jouais à un jeu débile", renchérit le DJ. "J'essayais d'atteindre la poubelle avec une boule de papier et je me disais que si ça rentrait, un jour je ferai le Brive Festival." Bien qu'il confie avoir raté son panier, celui qui vient de signer chez la célèbre maison de disque Wagram a su donner tort à ses superstitions.
De la french-touch à la Corrèze-touch
Élu "DJ résident" du festival, le jeune artiste au regard couleur ébène ne quittera pas la scène des quatre jours. "C'est un artiste auquel on croit beaucoup", affirme Stéphane Canarias, directeur du festival. "Une scène lui est entièrement dédiée pour animer tous les inter-concerts." T-shirt blancs et baskets assorties, sa sobriété vestimentaire ne l'empêchera pas d'envouter le public. "La scène est très proche du public, donc on peut vraiment communiquer avec lui, ressentir la chaleur, voir les sourires." Au programme, des morceaux en exclusivité, "et quelques micro-siestes pour tenir le coup!"

He was just four years old when the Brive Festival was created. This Thursday, he opens the festivities. "I'm doing things a bit backwards, but in the end I end up where I've always wanted to be." After a 2018 tour of Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines, the DJ from Correze is coming home. "It's a lot of emotions, my family will be there with my father who's never seen me on stage before. It's a bit stressful of course because it's my home, but without stress there's no excitement."

I used to play soccer.
Rivo's mix of pop-electro and tech-house is the story of a self-taught musician who fell into the electronic world at the age of 15, by chance: "I used to play soccer, then I got injured and started hanging around on YouTube one day. That's when I came across a David Guetta live show," recalls the artist, his mouth agape.
A rap fan until then, the young teenager at the time tried his hand at the electro genre "on the fly", in his bedroom. Equipped with a basic piece of software, Deniz Bizarra Simsek (real name) gradually transformed himself into Rivo. "I just wanted a four-letter name. I saw the nameplate on rue de Rivoli and took out the 'li' - I thought it looked good," he punctuates lightly.

What followed was an unexpected rise to fame worthy of a Hollywood biopic. "He's never even studied music theory or played an instrument in his life," says his manager, Malik Eddibi, with astonishment. "In my room, I used to play a stupid game," adds the DJ. "I'd try to reach the trash can with a ball of paper, and I'd tell myself that if it went in, one day I'd make the Brive Festival." Although he confesses to having missed his basket, the man who has just signed to the famous Wagram record label proved his superstitions wrong.
From French-touch to Corrèze-touch
Elected "resident DJ" of the festival, the young artist with ebony eyes will not leave the stage for four days. "He's an artist we believe in a lot," says festival director Stéphane Canarias. "A stage is entirely dedicated to him to liven up all the inter-concerts." White T-shirt and matching sneakers, his sober attire won't stop him from bewitching the audience. "The stage is very close to the audience, so you can really communicate with them, feel the warmth, see the smiles." On the program, exclusive tracks, "and a few micro-naps to keep you going!"
