Located on the east side of the rideau river canal, on the northern lock structure near andrewsville, approximately 3.9 km north northeast of the cpr tracks near merrickville. The point is located between the ninth and tenth boat-ties on the concrete wharf south of the lock structure. The point is marked by a bronze geodetic survey monument, stamped 753808, cemented in the concrete wharf.
When Geodetic Survey of Canada horizontal marker 753808 was placed here in 1975, the benchmark was easy access from the bottom of the stairs to the lockmaster’s house. Mother Nature has since taken back those stairs. This benchmark has a reference marker 111 metres to the north.
For my own enjoyment, I prefer to start at the large lot for the Upper Nicholsons Lock, cross the canal and hike downstream.
