A plaque in memory of the mayor of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Tim Walker, is located at the base of a flagpole in Elizabethtown Nature Park.

"Mayor Timothy Craig Walker, 54, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Elizabethtown and graduated in 1977 from Elizabethtown High School. He was a member of First Christian Church since 1971, where he was assistant Sunday School superintendent, served on the Serving Committee and was a nursery worker. He was a charter member of Central Hardin Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former chairman of the Employee Affairs Committee and of the Crusade for Children Committee and served on the Street Committee all for the city of Elizabethtown. He served on the Bids Committee, Public Safety Committee, and Planning Commission and was chairman for the Hardin County History Museum of Elizabethtown. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce since 1982, coached youth baseball for nine years, served on the Parent-Teacher Association at Helmwood Heights Elementary School and T.K. Stone Middle School and served on the Consolidated Plan Committee at T.K. Stone. He was a Repair Affair volunteer, was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel on April 14, 1998, and named Manager of the Year for 2000-2001 by the National Management Association. His first public job was as a stock boy for Gibson's Discount Store from 1971 to 1976. He's been in small business management since 1978 and a small business owner/operator since 1982. He went to work for the Elizabethtown Fire Department as a firefighter in January 1990. He opened Plaza Lube Oil Change Center in January of 1988 and was the owner of that business. He left the Fire Department in 1996 and was elected to the Elizabethtown City Council in November 1996 and completed his 14th year before being elected as mayor of Elizabethtown in November 2010.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Melanie Kay Yadon Walker; his father, Gwinn Walker; and a sister, Pat Walker.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Teresa; three sons, Timmy (Amber) Walker, Chris (Amy) Jones and Brandon (Jackie) Jones, all of Elizabethtown; three daughters, Stephanie (Todd) Sondergard, Randi Jones (Cody Shelton) and Tiffany Walker (Bradley Skeeters), all of Elizabethtown; his mother, Juanita Hall Walker of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Pam Walker and Dawn Walker, both of Elizabethtown; and eight grandchildren, Meredith, Gage, Trevor, Madyson, Delanie, Hailey, Rylan and Liam.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at First Christian Church with Dr. Terry Jones officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and continues at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements."
