The history she must have witnessed in one hundred years. She saw a man
take to the air, they flew across the ocean and to the moon. Four wars, and to live through The Great Depression. To see women have the right to vote and to fly into space. And the New York Yankees winning one more World Series.
1909 - Alice Huyler Ramsey, a 22 year old housewife and mother from Hackensack, New Jersey, became the first woman to drive across the United States. In 59 days, she drove a Maxwell automobile 3,800 miles from Manhattan, New York to San Francisco, California with three non-driving female companions.
1910 - Joyce Hall founded Hallmark Cards.
1912 - RMS Titanic sticks an iceberg and sinks with the loss of between 1,517 and 1,636 souls.
1914 - World War I (1914-1918)
1919 - The Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution begins Prohibition.
1920 - Babe Ruth's trade to the New York Yankees.
- The Nineteenth Amendment, giving women the right to vote.
1927 - Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight.
1930 - The Great Depression in the United States.
1931 - The Star-Spangled Banner is adopted as the United States
national anthem.

1932 - Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected president.
1933 - 21st Amendment ends prohibition.

1941 - Attack on Pearl Harbor.
1945 - End of World War II
1950 - Korean War begins when North Korea forces invade South Korea.
The war lasted until an armistice agreement was signed in 1953.
1955 - Start of Vietnam War.
1963 - "I have a Dream" Martin Luther King Jr. delivers his speech
during the civil rights march in Washington, DC.
1963 - Assassination of President Kennedy.
1969 - Moon Landing, Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin Jr., become the first men to land on the Moon.
1974 - Nixon Resignation.
1975 - End of Vietnam War
1983 - The first woman in space, Sally Ride on the Challenger
1992 - After 30 years Johnny Carson retired as host of NBC's The Tonight Show.
1996 - One of the worst blizzards in American history hits the eastern states, dropping 20 inches of snow, has gust winds of 50 mph and snow drifts up to 8 feet.
2000 - The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets in game 5 to win their 26th World Series title.

2003 - Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated as it reentered the atmosphere
2009 - Obama becomes the 44th president, Biden becomes the 47th vice president.
