Geology
Based on important events, the age of our planet is divided into Eras, Periods, and Stages. The transition between the Pliensbachian and Toarcian Stages occurred 183 million years ago (Early Jurassic) and is here visible. For this reason, experts from all over the world come here to study it.
Due to its importance, a "Golden Spike" marks this transition. The rocks below this mark are older and have many fossils of belemnites. Above this mark, rocks are younger and have ammonites (extinct rolled shell) and brachiopods.
