This bat box appears to have been installed around 2016, but there isn't any information about who was involved in building or installing it. I suspect it was either installed by Saanich Parks, or at least with their blessing.
The box is located on the edge of the area known locally as Panama Flats. This flat area was originally a wetland, but was farmed starting in the 19th century. Due to the tendency to retain water, insects can be prevalent during some parts of the year, making it a great spot for bats.
The bat box is mounted at the top of a roughly 10-foot-tall freestanding post. The box itself is about 8 inches square, by about 2 feet tall. It appears to have two layers of interior in which the bats can rest.
