"Santa Bárbara is a Spanish town belonging to the municipality of Aliaga, in the Mining Basins, in the province of Teruel, Aragon.

Santa Bárbara is a neighborhood located in a meander of the Val River, next to the A-1403 highway, a little less than 2 kilometers from the municipal capital. It was founded as a neighborhood for miners, being a nucleus of red brick houses, similar to Aldehuela. Only 19 inhabitants live.

It was recently founded, and does not have any local civil or religious monuments, although its church dedicated to Saint Barbara, patron saint of miners, which is currently a museum, should be mentioned.

The Aliaga geological park is one of the most important attractions of the district, since it is next to the neighborhood.

There were several mining operations in the area, from which high quality coal was extracted, but after the expansion of the Aliaga Thermal Power Plant in 1958, they were not able to supply all the coal needed for its operation, thus beginning the decline. of the Aliaga mining basin and the progressive abandonment of coal mines.

It was located to the N of the town, in a small valley. It was made up of a tower with a vertical well, and was in operation from 1948 until its closure in 1955. The coal was extracted especially for the Aliaga thermal power plant. It is accessed by a track from Cobatillas, being the easiest access."
