"The church of San Giovanni Battista is a building of Catholic worship in the late Neapolitan Renaissance style in Vietri sul Mare (Salerno).

The church stands where there was already a place of worship called San Giovanni di Staffilo in 1036, which became a parish church in the 14th century. The building underwent numerous renovations and the current structure dates back to the 17th century. At the beginning of the 17th century, the current dome was built over the transept of the transept, covered in 1902 with locally produced majolica tiles.

The church has a Latin cross plan, facing east, with a bell tower located to the left of the façade. The design of the latter, in a late Renaissance style attributable to the Mormando school, is the work of Matteo Vitale de Cava, to whom it was entrusted in 1617. The base is made of light Piperno stone, in the center the portal is delimited by two columns of black Fiano tuff. The portal is crowned by an oculus closed in the second half of the 20th century to insert a figure of the patron saint painted on ceramic.

Church interior
The interior has a single nave. The altars are decorated with majolica and ceramics except the main one, made of compromised marble.

The altarpiece dates from 1732 and represents the Virgin with Saint John and Saint Irene, the work of the Vetri painter Pietro De Rosa. Of particular value is the polyptych of the Madonna del Latte, from the 16th century, which represents the enthroned Virgin breastfeeding the Child, painted on a gold background; two side panels represent Saint John the Baptist and Saint Andrew.

The bell tower, 36.5 meters high, rises in six orders: the four lower ones, with a square base, support the two upper ones, with a hexagonal base, topped by a majolica dome."
