[FR] La rue Grande était l'artère principale du bourg, elle suit le trajet de l'ancienne voie romaine qui joignait Tours à Limoges. Avant 1840, en certains endroits deux charrettes ne pouvaient se croiser, quinze maisons furent frappées d'alignement et abattues En terre battue jusqu'en 1836, elle fut alors pavée sur 487 m de long et 4 m de large; les premiers trottoirs et caniveaux apparurent en 1857, son goudronnage sera effectué en 1924.

C'était la rue commerçante: peut-on imaginer qu'il y avait à Tournon une centaine de commerçants et artisans en 1950: 13 épiceries, 16 cafes dont 6 restaurants et 5 hotels, 6 magasins de confection, 2 modistes, 4 magasins de chaussures, 3 drogueries/quincailleries, 5 bouchers, 2 charcutiers, 3 boulangers, 2 pâtissiers, 5 mécaniciens auto et 2 vélo, 5 coiffeurs, 5 maréchaux, 7 marchands de bestiaux, photographe, imprimeur, librairie/bazar... Au n°5 était l'hôtel Sicault, Pierre Miquel, vétérinaire et gendre de la famille Sicault installera un théâtre au premier étage, puis vers 1920, le premier cinéma muet, où la projection du film était accompagnée par un piano. M. Miquel sera l'instigateur des cavalcades de Tournon dans les années 20 et de l'aménagerment du stade de Bel-Air en 1925. Les demoiselles Sicault géraient alors un atelier de lingerie et de broderie.

Entre la route du Blanc et celle de Pouligny s?lève la demeure de l'Hermitage, succédant à la métairie du Paradis, qui appartenait à la cure de Tournon avant la Révolution. Robert Espinasse, parfumeur à Grasse, construisit le bâtiment actuel en 1872 L'Hermitage appartiendra successivement à Denis de Lagarde qui la clôtura en 1905, Henri Desquart en 1912, Richard Poignon banquier à Paris en 1929. Enfin, en 1939, Ernest Lespagnol. directeur de la sucrerie de Vizy sur Ourcq, l'occupera jusque dans les années 60.

At no. 5 was the Hôtel Sicault, where Pierre Miquel, veterinary surgeon and son-in-law of the Sicault family, installed a theater on the second floor, then, around 1920, the first silent cinema, where film projection was accompanied by a piano. Mr. Miquel was the driving force behind the Tournon cavalcades in the 1920s and the construction of the Bel-Air stadium in 1925. At the time, the Sicault ladies ran a lingerie and embroidery workshop.

Between the roads to Le Blanc and Pouligny stands the Hermitage, the successor to the métairie du Paradis, which belonged to the Tournon parish priest before the Revolution.
