These information signs has information about the flora and fauna that can be found in Marfa Ridge. They are located at the entrance to the area, which has also been converted into a protected area, a Foresta 2000 Woodland Project.

The project is about bringing forest and associated flora and fauna back to Malta. Malta was covered in forest 7000 years ago, but it was cleared to be replaced by agricultural land. Later, agriculture was replaced by an unusually large number of tourist areas with hotels and apartments. More than 20,000 trees have now been planted, and thus both the flora and fauna have had good growing conditions.

In addition to learning about the background to the project, you can also read about all the changes that have taken place on site.

You can read that the many wild flowers that are now in Marfa Ridge, among other things, attract many different butterflies, for example Swallowtail, Clouded Yellow and Painted Lady. In the area you can now also find Painted Frog, the only amphibian to be found in Malta.
An exciting place to visit as you can see how quickly nature changes.
