"The church is located in the center of the town in the square of the same name. It is dedicated to Saint Mary. The first mentions are from the 11th century, so on May 6, 1066, Arnau Ramon, before making a pilgrimage to Rome, made a will and among Other things he leaves the assets he has in the parish of Vidreres to his mother.

And on January 8, 1079, the bishop of Girona consecrated the church of Sant Romano de Lloret (currently the hermitage of Las Alegrías), and it is said that the parish of Lloret faces to the north the parishes of Sant Llorenç de Maçanet, Santa María de Vidreres and Sant Esteve de Caulès. But the building that we can see is from the end of the 18th century and perhaps only the bases of the bell tower remain from the old construction.

The construction of the current church was carried out specifically between the years 1790 and 1800 within the neoclassical baroque style. During the last Carlist war (1872-1875) the pyramid that crowned the bell tower was demolished, later the dome that still exists was built. The façade remained unfinished until the 1990s, so the lower part is made of stone and the upper part was finished with a sgraffito. The church consists of a central nave with side chapels, one of which is dedicated to the patron saints of Vidreres, Saint Iscle and Saint Victoria."
