Bat boxes on an old transformer house of the former HEW on Siedenfelder Weg in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.
On the Siedenfelder Weg in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg stands an old transformer station of the former HEW (Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke AG). This building was taken over by the BUND (German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation) in 1996 and the building became a shelter for wild animals, mainly birds (for example, swallows, common swifts and sparrows) and bats.
Five bat boxes in two different sizes are attached to the outside of the building. These are so-called flat boxes, which are intended to provide shelter for crevice-dwelling bat species such as the common pipistrelle, hoary bat, whiskered bat and broad-winged bat.
