"Comparto en Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia unas fotografías tomadas en el entorno de la UPC en Castelldefels, en el humedal llamado la Olla del Rei", explica Antonio Picón.
"Es un lugar donde conviven libremente distintas aves acuáticas, entre otras", destaca el lector, antes de indicar que "se trata de una serie de canales que recogen el agua de una parte del municipio que es regulada por diversos mecanismos".
"La evolución de este espacio ha generado la aparición de interesantes aves, algunas de ellas están en estas fotos: corb marí gros (Cormorán grande), cabudsset (zampullín), polla d'aigua (gallineta común), fotja (focha común), gavina vulgar (gaviota patiamarilla)", afirma el autor de las instantáneas.
La zona húmeda del Campus del Baix Llobregat tiene hoy en día un elevado valor ecológico. Fue creada en 1998 junto al campus de la UPC. De lago de aguas freáticas ha pasado a ser uno de los parajes incluidos en el Inventario de Zonas Húmedas de Catalunya.
Se trata de un conjunto de canales, marismas y lagunas interconectados, rodeados por una zona con hábitats de interés, como bosques de ribera. Es un disfrute para los alumnos del Campus y para los vecinos y naturalistas del Baix Llobregat.
Ya en 1999, debido a la presencia de agua, diversas especies de vegetación acuática colonizaron el estanque. Ese mismo año nidificaron los primeros pájaros acuáticos. Y, en el el año 2000 se construyeron los dos puentes que atraviesan el estanque.
Además de las especies habituales de este tipo de ambientes, como las que ha nombrado el autor de las fotografías, se ha observado la presencia de la garza imperial, la garcilla cangrejera, el calamón, el pato colorado, el porrón rojo o la garceta. Y se ha constatado también la nidificación de varias especies, como el avetorillo.
El nombre de Olla del Rei proviene de una leyenda de origen tardomedieval, que fue recogida por Teodor Creus y por Joan Amades.
La historia explica que el envenenamiento del príncipe Carles de Viana provocó la Guerra civil catalana entre 1462 i 1472.
Una vez terminada, el rey Joan II salió un día de caza por el sur del delta del Llobregat. Las dificultades del terreno, lleno de estanques, cañaverales y mimbreras, hizo que el rey se perdiera.
Fue entonces cuando apareció un campesino que, con engaño, lo hizo desorientarse aún más hasta que acabó cayendo dentro de uno de los estanques, que el campesinado local llamaba "ollas". Y allí pasó la noche el rey.
Al día siguiente lo encontró una niña que avisó a las gentes de Castelldefels y al castillo, a donde trasladaron al rey, que había enfermado. No superó las fiebres y murió poco después.
Según la leyenda, aquel campesino que lo había engañado era en realidad el espectro del príncipe Carles, que así se cobró venganza.
El Ayuntamiento de Castelldefels editó un cuento infantil de aventuras imaginarias que toma como partida la leyenda de la Olla del Rei.

The wetland area of ??the Baix Llobregat Campus today has a high ecological value. It was created in 1998 next to the UPC campus. From a lake of groundwater it has become one of the places included in the Inventory of Wet Areas of Catalonia.
It is a set of interconnected canals, marshes and lagoons, surrounded by an area with habitats of interest, such as riverside forests. It is an enjoyment for the students of the Campus and for the residents and naturalists of Baix Llobregat.
Already in 1999, due to the presence of water, various species of aquatic vegetation colonized the pond. That same year the first aquatic birds nested. And, in the year 2000, the two bridges that cross the pond were built.
In addition to the usual species of this type of environment, such as those named by the author of the photographs, the presence of the Purple Heron, the Crab-eating Egret, the Swarm, the Red Duck, the Red Pochard and the Egret have been observed. And the nesting of several species, such as the bittern, has also been confirmed.
The name Olla del Rei comes from a legend of late medieval origin, which was collected by Teodor Creus and Joan Amades.
History explains that the poisoning of Prince Carles de Viana caused the Catalan Civil War between 1462 and 1472.
Once finished, King Joan II went hunting for a day in the south of the Llobregat delta. The difficulties of the terrain, full of ponds, reed beds and osier trees, caused the king to get lost.
It was then that a peasant appeared who, by trickery, made him even more disoriented until he ended up falling into one of the ponds, which the local peasantry called "pots." And there the king spent the night.
The next day he was found by a girl who notified the people of Castelldefels and the castle, where they transferred the king, who had fallen ill. He did not overcome the fever and died shortly after.
According to legend, that peasant who had deceived him was actually the ghost of Prince Charles, who thus exacted revenge.
The Castelldefels City Council published a children's story of imaginary adventures that takes as its starting point the legend of the Olla del Rei.
