"Location and access
Place d'Armes is part of a trapezoid bordered to the north by rue Sainte-Anne, to the south by rue Saint-Louis , to the east by rue du Fort and to the west by rue du Trésor . It covers an area of ??5,000 m2 .
In the center stands the monument of Faith, with a height of 12 m . This sculpture was built in 1916.
Origin of name
Generally located in the center of a fortification, a parade ground is the gathering place of a small troop and a central space hosting the important ceremonies of military life.
History
Place d'Armes was created between 1640 and 1648 by Governor Montmagny to serve as a place for military exercises.
After the construction of the Citadel in 1830 , it lost its military function. It was surrounded with a chain in 1832 to protect the lawn. In 1865 , it became a public park, with a basin in the center.
In 1915 , the monument of Faith was erected there to commemorate the tercentenary of the arrival of the Récollets in Quebec
