The Old Highway 90 runs past The Candlewook Suites and the Country Inn and Suites on the right side of the Old Highway 90 while driving Northward. There are several curb cuts to use to turn off the Old Highway 90 and enter the entrances to either motel of your choice. There is a common entrance road that runs parallel to Hwy 90 but is on the connecting road to the motels. When facing the motels with your back toward Old Hwy 90, the Country Inn and Suites is on your right and the Candlewood Suites is toward your left.
The yard in front of the motels contain a few clusters of landscaping. One of the landscaped areas closer to the left side motel has a tall telephone pole rising high over the cactus plants near it. About a yard or so from the edge of the access roadway and between the telephone pole and some landscaping is the location of a vertical control mark flange and lid that covers the buried rod that is the benchmark of this quest. The coordinates place the control mark close to the Candlewood Suites. Once in the general area of the telephone pole near the landscaping, it should be easy to spot the gray metal lid that covers the benchmark you are seeking.
The lid is still with the matching flange but the hinge has been broken. To see the metal rod inside the flange, carefully lift up the round lid and look into the flange to see the metal rod inside.
Around the edge were the lid rests are three sections of text that are integral with the flange.
The three parts of the text read as follows:
Left side text:
VERTICAL CONTROL MARK
UNLAWFUL TO DISTRURB
Middle text:

Right side text:

Please return the lid to its correct position before leaving.
