Das Denkmal für den Komponisten und Kapellmeister Orlando di Lasso wurde von Max Widnmann gestaltet und 1849 am Odeonsplatz aufgestellt. Die überlebensgroße stehende Person hält in der linken Hand gerollte Notenblätter, ein Mantel hüllt die Figur ein.
Im Jahr 1860 mußte es zusammen mit dem Denkmal für Christoph Willibald Gluck dem Reiterstandbild für Ludwig I. weichen und erhielt als neuen Standort seinen heutigen Platz auf dem Promenadeplatz. Das Denkmal wurde im 2. Weltkrieg eingeschmolzen. Ein Abguß war glücklicherweise im Schloß Schleißheim eingelagert, so wurde am am 22. Juli 1958 um 18:30 Uhr aus Anlaß der 800-Jahr-Feierlichkeiten von München das restaurierte Denkmal abermals der Öffentlichkeit übergeben.
Seit 2009 wird das Denkmal von Michael-Jackson-Fans als Kultstätte für den Popsänger genutzt (oder verschandelt?). Aus der ganzen Welt kommen die Besucher und legen dazu ein selbst gemaltes Bild, einen Brief oder ein Gedicht ab. Der Star gastierte mehrmals vis-a-vis im Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

Orlando di Lasso (auch Orlande de Lassus oder Roland de Lattre; * 1532 in Mons, Hennegau; † 14. Juni 1594 in München) der vielleicht der bedeutendste, jedenfalls erfolgreichste und berühmteste Komponist der zweiten Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts, war von 1557 bis zu seinem Tod am Münchner Hof beschäftigt; zunächst als Sänger und Komponist, später als Hofkapellmeister. Er machte München erstmals zu einer Musikstadt von europäischem Rang. Seine Zeitgenossen nannten ihn den Princeps musicorum (Fürst der Musiker), was von der hohen Wertschätzung schon zu Lebzeiten zeugt.

In 1860, together with the monument to Christoph Willibald Gluck, it had to make way for the equestrian statue of Ludwig I and was moved to its current location on Promenadeplatz. The monument was melted down during the Second World War. Fortunately, a cast was stored in Schleißheim Palace, so on 22 July 1958 at 6:30 pm, on the occasion of Munich's 800th anniversary celebrations, the restored monument was once again presented to the public.
Since 2009, the memorial has been used (or defaced?) by Michael Jackson fans as a place of worship for the pop singer. Visitors come from all over the world and leave a self-painted picture, a letter or a poem. The star was a guest several times vis-a-vis in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

Orlando di Lasso (also Orlande de Lassus or Roland de Lattre; * 1532 in Mons, Hainaut; † 14 June 1594 in Munich), perhaps the most important, and in any case the most successful and famous composer of the second half of the 16th century, was employed at the Munich court from 1557 until his death; initially as a singer and composer, later as the court conductor. He made Munich a city of music of European standing for the first time. His contemporaries called him the Princeps musicorum (Prince of Musicians), which testifies to the high esteem in which he was held even during his lifetime.
