This compass rose is part of a large mosaic along the river in Wasserbillig. The Mosaic is a map and like any good map, there is a compass rose.
The cardinal points are written on the edges of the larger mosaic in the classical terms of Septentrio, Subsolanus, Auster, Favonius. Further explained here: (

Oddly enough it took three attempts to get this published despite it clearly being a compass rose. Even though it is on a map and clearly states the cardinal directions, albeit in roman.
