The origins of the Maree Man are clouded in mystery. It is such a large monument, engraved in the desert that no one knows who or how it was made. It has been suggested that GPS must have been used. However, GPS only became available to the public in the 1980 and fully function in 1995. If this is the case, it is a spectacular early use of the technology.
The figure is 2.7 kilometres high. It is not possible to visit the site as it is prohibited as Aboriginal land and can only be viewed from the air.
