The monument consists of a boulder with a niche in which there is a bronze bust of Ernst Krafft. His name is inscribed underneath.

Ernst Friedrich Krafft (1823 - 1898) was one of the formative figures in the early industrialization of St. Blasien. His father-in-law Carl Wilhelm Grether acquired the cotton spinning mill in the former Benedictine abbey of St. Blasien in 1852 and appointed Krafft as plant manager. In 1857, he moved to St. Blasien and took over the company, which he greatly expanded. Even the catastrophic fire of 1874 only had a temporary effect on his economic success.

He opened a school, a kindergarten and an infirmary for the families of his workers and was involved in building up the Protestant community.

Krafft sat for the National Liberal Party in the Reichstag from 1878 to 1881 and 1884 to 1890, in the Second Chamber of the Baden Assembly of Estates from 1883 to 1890 and in the First Chamber of the Grand Duchy of Baden from 1893 to 1894.

Das Denkmal beesteht aus einem Felsbrocken mit einer Nische in der sich eine Bronze-Büste von Ernst Krafft befindet. Darunter steht sein Name.

Ernst Friedrich Krafft (1823 - 1898) war einer der prägenden Gestalten der frühen Industrialisierung von St. Blasien. Sein Schwiegervater Carl Wilhelm Grether erwarb 1852 die Baumwollspinnerei in der ehemaligen Benediktiner-Abtei von St. Blasien und setzte Krafft als Betriebsleiter ein. 1857 übersiedelte er nach St. Blasien und übernahm das Unternehmen, das er stark ausbaute. Auch die Brandkatastrophe von 1874 konnte seinen wirtschaftlichen Erfolg nur vorübergehend beeinträchtigen.

Er eröffnete eine Schule, einen Kindergarten und eine Krankenstation für die Familien seiner Arbeiter und war am Aufbau der evangelischen Gemeinde beteiligt.

Für die Nationalliberale Partei sass Krafft von 1878 bis 1881 und 1884 bis 1890 im Reichstag, 1883 bis 1890 in der Zweiten Kammer der Badischen Ständeversammlung und 1893 bis 1894 in der Ersten Kammer des Großherzogtums Baden.
