This pillar can be found on the 284 metre summit of Blacklaw Hill, one of the many summits of the Sidlaw Hills extending eastwards through Perthshire into Angus, north of the city of Dundee, of which this is eight miles westwards of. The hill lies within Angus, close to the Border with Perth & Kinross, and lies to the west of the Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort and its attendant loch which it overlooks. The pillar is in good condition and lies adjacent to a memorial seat dedicated to Zoe Matheson. Views are extensive, with Dundee to the east, and further afield, Schiehallion is visible on the western horizon.

STEEPNESS: Short and steep initially, but soon eases nearer the summit.

TERRAIN: Tarmac giving way to paths which become more rugged on the climb.

ACCESSIBILITY: The hill lies a mile west from the extensive parking area at Piperdam Resort, and has a walking route all the way to the summit from here.

NAVIGATION: A roadway heads along the north side of the loch before a signpost points south-westwards across the far end of the golf course. From here the path enters woodland along the edge of a fence. Take a left fork away from the fence and climb up the hill keeping west of pine woodland. The path heads to the summit which is reached between two cairns.

DANGER: None apart from flying golf balls and a rutted path on the ascent.
