The Avon Inn was built in 1820 by Jonathan H. Gerry as a private residence but was never completed. It is located at the corner of East Main Street and Temple Street. History of the building's use: 1866-a bank was established in the west wing. 1882-remodeled and a third story and west wing were added. It was renamed The Sanatarium.
1979-it was partially destroyed by fire, including the third floor. 1980-purchased by Frank Csapo and restored. 1982-purchased by Linda Rusch. It is presently a restaurant, open Friday-Sunday. They can accommodate parties of 15-250 guests. They also have 14 hotel rooms, overnight packages are available. Check their website for hours and pricing.
