In 1903, planning began for a monument in honor of the “Iron Chancellor” Otto von Bismarck. Typical of the Wilhelmine period, it had to be grand and gigantic - a tower with a lighting device (fire column), 42 m high.

After delays during construction, the inauguration took place in the summer season of 1907. The entrance fee in 1913 was 20 pfennigs. The Bismarkwarte counted 12 - 17.000 visitors every year.

After the Second World War, a Soviet Army commando blew up the tower so that anti-aircraft guns could be installed on the foundations. The signs of this demolition can still be seen today in the bark scars of the old beech trees. Source: heilwald-heringsdorf.de/Historisches/Die-Bismarkwarte
