"It was erected according to the Mudejar postulates around the 14th century, of which it preserves the three naves and the main chapel. The baroque style is represented in the elements that make up the extension carried out in the last quarter of the 17th century, with respect to the Mudejar body pre-existing, with the addition of a section, façade, tower and baptismal chapel that represents the first commission carried out by the diocesan architect Antonio de Figueroa y Ruiz. His intervention in this Church is considered one of the last examples of the peculiar style, called baroque. triumphant, and one of the first announcements of the change of direction demanded by the new times in its taste for the primacy of the Rococo line over the baroque masses, as can be seen in its magnificent main façade.

The tower presents the characteristic typology of the 18th century in Andalusia, originating from the Giralda, and is part of a peculiar group of Huelva towers built by the same author and following a very similar model.

It must be taken into account that the building represents one more piece of the intense religious construction activity that characterizes the architecture of Huelva in the 18th century, motivated by a set of economic, demographic and natural circumstances that has come to be defined as its golden age. The works carried out in the church during the last quarter of the 17th century share the triggers and characteristics of the provincial building practice at this time, being therefore an essential element for its correct and global understanding.

The rest of the chapels and other spaces added to the Church ship were built in the 19th century, giving rise to a fourth nave open on the Gospel side."
