This statue is called dwarapala and means "the guardian of the gate".
It is placed at the entrances of temples to protect the past.
In this representation it is a chubby person with a gnome-like nose, carved and polished, rounded and covered with coloured cloaks according to the time.
It has a Buddhist touch that reminds us of Buddha in its representation of a fat person.
