"La Virgen de Los Milagros ya tiene su monumento en Palos de la Frontera en conmemoración por el 25 aniversario de su Coronación Pontificia por San Juan Pablo Segundo. Desde estos días, la imagen de patrona de la localidad reside en la entrada al Templo Virgen de los Milagros de la barriada de los Príncipes. Un nuevo icono artístico que muestra la fe y devoción que todo el pueblo siente por su virgen.
El nuevo monumento consta de una escultura en bronce de la Virgen de los Milagros y su hijo con coronas, de 1,40 metros de altura. Esta se encuentra situada sobre un pedestal de tres metros realizado en mármol. Una obra del artista Francisco Parra, ya conocido en el municipio por su busto a Martín Alonso Pinzón situado en la Plaza Pilar Pulgar.
El proyecto nacía de la petición realizada por la Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de los Milagros y San Jorge Mártir al Ayuntamiento de Palos para instalar un monumento en el césped del pinar rabideño a su titular. De esta manera, no sería necesario trasladar a la Patrona de Palos hasta ese punto durante la celebración eucarística del domingo de Romería. Con ello se evitarían problemas a la figura de la virgen, "algo deteriorada con el paso de los años", apuntan.
Las obras tuvieron que ser paralizadas, según el Ayuntamiento de Palos de la Frontera, "ante la negativa de la Diputación de Huelva para realizar este monumento que preservaría la integridad de la Virgen de los Milagros. El Ayuntamiento siguió trabajando, consiguiendo la autorización de la Comisión Provincial de Patrimonio Histórico de Huelva la Delegación de Cultural de la Junta de Andalucía, pero sin embargo no ha sido suficiente para la Diputación provincial".
Con el paso del tiempo el Equipo de Gobierno ha decidido instalar el monumento en un lugar simbólico para todo el pueblo, las puertas del templo que lleva su nombre. De esta manera, los numerosos vecinos y visitantes que transcurren por la Avenida Bayona la Real pueden contemplar la imagen de su patrona y dedicarle algún pensamiento u oración.
La bendición tuvo lugar este pasado fin de semana tras la tradicional homilía de los domingos en el Templo Virgen de los Milagros. Un destacado acontecimiento al que acudían numerosos vecinos y representantes de las Hermandades y Asociaciones de la localidad. Al acto iban, además, gran parte de la corporación municipal, encabezada por el alcalde de Palos de la Frontera, Carmelo Romero. Además, quisieron estar presentes los tres últimos presidentes de la Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de los Milagros y San Jorge Mártir.
“Por fin, la Virgen de Los Milagros tiene el monumento que se merece. Muestra de la devoción de todo el pueblo de Palos de la Frontera. Seguiremos trabajando para que en el pinar de La Rábida haya una imagen de nuestra virgen, conservando nuestras tradiciones y fe”, añadía el primer edil, Carmelo Romero.
El 14 de junio de 2018 Palos de la Frontera conmemoraba el 25 aniversario de la Coronación Pontificia de Nuestra Señora de los Milagros por su santidad San Juan Pablo Segundo. Todo estaba listo para la inauguración de un gran monumento en su honor, "pero lamentablemente no pudo realizarse", recuerdan. Tras más de cinco años ese mismo monumento se ha instalado en su pueblo, "mostrando con orgullo su fe y devoción. Todo un símbolo artístico que se suma al amor de los palermos por la Virgen de Los Milagros".

"La Virgen de los Milagros o Santa María de la Rábida es una imagen religiosa católica que se venera en el Monasterio de La Rábida de la ciudad de Palos de la Frontera (Huelva, España).
Se trata de una imagen de estilo gótico, del siglo xiii aproximadamente, realizada en alabastro. Fue testigo de excepción de los históricos acontecimientos del descubrimiento y evangelización de América. Ante ella oraron Colón, los Pinzón y los hombres que participaron tanto en la primera expedición colombina como en aquellas posteriores que partieron hacia América desde esta zona.? Asimismo, en sus visitas al monasterio franciscano, se postraron ante ella, entre otros, Hernán Cortés, Gonzalo de Sandoval (que falleció en el monasterio y fue enterrado en el mismo) o Francisco Pizarro."
