April 14, 1914 - December 6, 2020
June Santini Johnson, 106, was born at midnight on April 14, 1914 in Key West, Florida, on a houseboat, delivered by a midwife. She died Sunday, December 6, 2020. She lived her entire life in Lee County. She was the daughter of Joseph Cyril Santini and Morning Curry Santini. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, Josephine Yent Armeda (Big Mama) and Miss Josie's second husband, Capt. Nick Armeda. She graduated from Fort Myers High in 1932 and was known as June Armeda throughout her school years. She married Samuel Joseph "S.J." Johnson Jr. on January 1, 1932 and was preceded by him in death in August 1996. She was predeceased by her oldest daughter, J. Kristin Lacey; her beloved nephew, Cyril "Buddy" Santini of Texas; her brothers, Grinnell, Elmo & Leonard; and her sister Blanche Santini Townley. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Bettena "Tena" Jones; son-in-law, Timothy Jones; grandson, Bryan (Cheryl) Jones; and three great grandchildren: Brittni, Aubrey & Ace Jones. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Santini of Fort Myers Beach, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and in-laws, Mike & Jana Jones. The family would like to thank the caregivers & staff at The Rose Garden of Fort Myers for the excellent care and attention they provided to June in her last year and a half, and to Hope Hospice for their care in the past month, as well as June's final 24 hours at Hope Hospice House. Words cannot express our gratitude for your care of this feisty woman! A graveside gathering will be held at the family plot (on Murray Lane) in the Fort Myers Cemetery at 3200 Michigan Avenue, on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. There will be no service and no wake.
