On her knees, a peasant woman with a bonnet headdress with a rigid square base places a mortuary wreath at the foot of an obelisk with a helmet at the top.
Its bodice, with a high collar, tightly buttoned, compresses the chest. The long skirt of the peasant woman spreads its wide folds, overflowing the base. Collected, her head slightly bowed, her beautiful serious face, inspired by that of Madame Besnard, a resident of Simon-la-Vineuse, she holds in her hands the funeral wreath which she dedicates to the children of Sainte-Hermine.
