La Fontaine Place du Portail de Peyre-en-Aubrac
Aumont-Aubrac depuis le 1er janvier 2017 fait partie de la nouvelle commune de Peyre-en-Aubrac qui englobe les anciennes communes de La Chaize de Peyre, Fau-de-Peyre, Javols, Sainte-Colombe Peyre et Saint-Sauveur de Peyre. Aumont-Aubrac est située sur l’ancienne Via Agrippa (qui reliait Lyon à Toulouse) et sur la via Podensis (portion de route ainsi appelée au Moyen-Âge et qui menait à Saint-Jacques de Compostelle).
Le village se trouve à l’extrême limite sud de l’Auvergnat. En occitan il se nomme Aoumou.
La fontaine est érigée au centre de la Place. Nous ignorons sa datation, par contre la très belle représentation de la bête du Gévaudan qui la surmonte a été réalisée en 1992. Elle est l’œuvre de Noël et Roch Pélissier ferronnier d’Art à Saint-Alban en Lozère.

Curiosité : La Statue de la Bête du Gévaudan au dessus de la fontaine. Cette « bête » a sévi dans notre région de 1764 à 1767 faisant plus de 100 victimes.

The Fountain Place du Portail in Peyre-en-Aubrac
Aumont-Aubrac since January 1, 2017 has been part of the new commune of Peyre-en-Aubrac which includes the former communes of La Chaize de Peyre, Fau-de-Peyre, Javols, Sainte-Colombe Peyre and Saint-Sauveur de Peyre. Aumont-Aubrac is located on the ancient Via Agrippa (which linked Lyon to Toulouse) and on the Via Podensis (portion of road so called in the Middle Ages and which led to Santiago de Compostela).
The village is located at the extreme southern limit of Auvergnat. In Occitan it is called Aoumou.
The fountain is erected in the center of the Square. We do not know its dating, however the very beautiful representation of the beast of Gévaudan which surmounts it was produced in 1992. It is the work of Noël and Roch Pélissier, ironworker d'Art in Saint-Alban in Lozère.

Curiosity: The Statue of the Beast of Gévaudan above the fountain. This “beast” raged in our region from 1764 to 1767, causing more than 100 victims.
