"Several former students of the La Salle school in Santiago have recounted the episodes of abuse that they experienced or witnessed when they studied at the facilities in the 1980s. They point to the same teacher, a deceased religious man whose initials were J.B. One of the victims, who identifies himself as Pablo, told Cadena Ser that the situation affected him so much that he made himself vomit to make his mother believe that he was sick and not have to go to class.

The “rejection” it generated was so great that he took advantage of the time he went home to eat to go to the bathroom and convince his mother that he was feeling unwell. She did it on the days she had class with this teacher in the afternoon. “Being with him all afternoon in class was horrible for me,” she explained. Another former student told the station that the touching was generally known and occurred in public and in front of all the other children. Alberto remembers that this same religious “went table by table and student by student groping, putting his hand under the shirt”: “I remember breathing. He would approach from behind and touch her collarbone...To this day, as an adult, it seems like a moan of pleasure to me.” He claims that the minors were afraid of him.
Although it may seem like a small amount, added to those of many more people, it is what makes it possible for us to exist.
Many people, with small decisions, can do great things.
Another of the testimonies, that of Henrique, refers to the same practices: “He put his hand on your shoulders, he began to massage your collarbones. If you let him - some physically showed rejection, but only physically, no one said anything - he would start touching your neck, putting his hand down your back with a caress of 'come on, relax'. With some he would lift the jersey and the T-shirt and continue along the lower back, between the pants and the jersey.
La Salle, which has centers in several cities in Spain, has assured that it will investigate the cases. Last weekend he issued a statement in which he reported that, after making public his testimony of abuse, the writer Alejandro Palomas, received three complaints in recent days, two of them in Galicia and one in Castilla y León, which affect three different religious people. The reported events occurred in the 70s and 80s, which is why the entity considers that “the statute of limitations would have expired.” He assures that he launched his internal procedure “immediately” and that he is going to collect information and interview members of the educational community of that time."
