Trabant was a car designed in Eastern Germany. It was cheap, easy to produce and made out of plastic. Since the fall of the Communist regime it became a cult car and this museum makes it quite clear.
It's a fine museum, a bit on the small side, but the collection is diverse and rich. To visit the outdoors exhibit no ticket is needed.
From the official website:
"The whole premises, where the museum is located, were built by AUTOSPORTKLUB PRAHA, which in the past used to be the club with the highest number of active racing drivers in Czechoslovakia. More than fifty years ago the club was founded by Mr. Viktor Mráz (one of the best-known post-war racing drivers, Merited Master of Sports and trainer of new racing talent) and then run by him jointly with Mrs. Helena Huclová (a Trabant racer and an AUTOSPORTKLUB PRAHA economic secretary) and other club members.
AUTOSPORTKLUB PRAHA was founded in the 1960s and at that time club drivers would frequently race in cars of the Trabant brand. AUTOSPORTKLUB PRAHA cooperated with a plant in Zwickau, Germany, where Trabants used to be produced."
