The murals are located on a canal building situated at Lock No.41 on the Trent and Mersey Canal in Kidsgrove.

The murals are painted on three boarded up windows of a small brick built canal building situated between the twin locks adjacent to Hardingswood Road.

The murals portray local scenes of the Trent and Mersey Canal.
The painting on the back of the building depicts the Harecastle Tunnel, with the orange canal water that can be seen at this location. There is a large black bat flying in the foreground.
The painting on one side of the building shows the lock with the lock gates and surrounding buildings and on the other side facing the Canal Tavern pub a birds eye view of the canal.

Red Bull Top Lock No. 41 also known as Plants Lock is located on the Trent and Mersey Canal, adjacent to the Canal Tavern on Hardings Wood Road in Kidsgrove.

"Red Bull Top Lock No 41 is a minor waterways place on the Trent and Mersey Canal (Main Line - Harding's Wood to Middlewich) between Wharf Bridge No 154 (Wheelock ) (6 miles and 6¾ furlongs and 25 locks to the west) and Hardings Wood Junction (Junction of Trent and Mersey Canal and Hall Green Branch) (½ furlongs to the east).
The nearest place in the direction of Wharf Bridge No 154 is Hardingswood Bridge No 133; a few yards away.
Mooring here is ok (a perfectly adequate mooring).
This is a lock with a rise of 9 feet."

The Trent & Mersey Canal, engineered by James Brindley, was the country’s first long-distance canal. This cross-country canal takes in the best of what the North Midlands has to offer, with stunning views over the Cheshire Plain. It is full of interesting features, which reflect its history. These include Harecastle Tunnel, the lengthy lock flight known as ‘Heartbreak Hill’, and the traditional canal town of Shardlow. (visit link)
