This part of Germany is very much Roman Catholic. In fact, there are lots of small way chapels along hiking and pilgrimage paths. Zengerles Kapelle is one such place, along a main hiking path near the famous 'Schwarzer Grat' or 'Black Ridge', one of the highest peaks in the small set of mountains east of Isny.
The chapel is rustic, made of wood, but well maintained. It one of the few parts of Zengerles Alpe (a resting place for hikers) that survived the 1950s, with other part of the Alpe were left to decay or be torn down. The chapel was renovated in 1987 and is still standing today.
One of the local traditions (and the photos will show this) is that guests should sweep it our before going in and praying. Keeps this place in the middle of the Allgauer wilderness clean. :-)
