"The Community of Barefoot Mercedarian Mothers of Santiago have shown their "perplexity, pain and dismay" before the "complaint" that three nuns originally from India were supposedly being held in their convent in Santiago de Compostela. In a letter sent to the media this Friday, they explain that on January 23 they were informed, through a court order, that five of them "had to give a statement in the Santiago courts for a complaint of illegal detention."All of this, they have highlighted, "without, at any time, the order having received information of any complaint about alleged criminal behavior in its 300 years of existence, either from a judicial body or from a private person."Likewise, in the text they point out that, currently, "after the latest events", the community is formed by seven sisters from Spain, India and Mexico. "It is a small universal community, full of joy and cultural variety," they say before highlighting that everything there "revolves around the search for God."Training nuns, "endearing task"Furthermore, they have recalled that, "more than 15 years ago", they wanted to "facilitate the development of contemplative life" to different young foreigners from Kerala (India) and Mexico. "Now some are nuns with solemn vows and others discovered over time that the Lord was calling them to another type of vocation in the Church and in the world," they have indicated."We thank God for each of our sisters, both those who have preserved, as well as those who freely and voluntarily decided to leave religious life< a i=2>; They have all been a gift from God, due to their fervent and missionary spirit," they stated before assuring that "the formation of these young women was an endearing task and with God's help the community moved forward."They ask for respect from the institutionsFurthermore, in the letter sent this Friday, the Barefoot Mercedarian Mothers of Santiago ask "people, institutions and media to respect" towards the form of consecrated life in the Church." They appreciate the support received from different ecclesiastical authorities, such as the Archbishop of Santiago, Julián Barrio, and assure that "beyond the pain and dismay" They continue to "trust in the God of Mercy, who welcomes and forgives.""
