This arch is something out of Jim of the Jungle, and sets the mood for the playground.
It starts with the 8 foot tall evergreen stumps with are the rising post of the arch. Across the top is a narrow "roof" which is also shingled, and topped with a Grey Squirrel weather vane. This squirrel looks so real you can see his tail twitch as he complains about humans being around. And, BTW, he is munching on an acorn.
Hanging in the center of the roof area is a driftwood plank with the red letters "DISCOVERY PLAYGROUND" written upon it. Along side is another flat plank, and that is the Rotary's sign of donation.
"Working with SWT Design and All Inclusive Rec. a final design was completed in June of 2011. To view the final design click on the following link: Discovery Playground
Jaycee Park is famous for Discovery Playground which opened in 2012. A paved trail provided access through the park from north to south connecting all the major components and providing multiple access points. The north end of the park includes the City of St. Charles fire station and a piece of public art, but overall is passive open space with open lawn areas, wooded creeks and swales. It also includes a popular sledding hill on the west side of the park. ~ St. Charles Parks & Recreation
