From their website: The Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery is a United States Army post cemetery located outside the city of Columbus, GA. Fort Benning was established in 1918, and is named after Confederate General Henry L. Benning, who lived in Columbus. Known as the "Maneuver Center of Excellence", the installation covers 182,000 acres including the Main Post Cemetery. One of the largest Army Post cemeteries, Fort Benning is an open cemetery that averages about 169 interments per year. As of July 2015, the 8.38 acre cemetery is the final resting place of over 10,000 of our nation's soldiers including (3) Medal of Honor awardees and their dependents. The cemetery is also the final resting place of 4 Chinese allied pilots, 7 Italian and 44 German prisoners of war who died in captivity at various military camps nearby and brought to Fort Benning for burial during World War II."
