The U.S. Post Office for Woodson, Texas (population 258) is a small yellow-brick building on the west side of US 183, which is the main north-south street through Woodson. The Post Office signage does not display the town's ZIP code. Parking is surprisingly limited but there is some room behind the building.

The area was initially settled in 1875 by J.O. Wood, his son O. J. Wood, and by their associate Henry McClintick. The settlement, initially called Jom, was established around a cotton gin built so that the ranchers could get cottonseed to feed to cattle. O.J. deeded lots to anyone who would build a residence there, free of charge. The subsequent growth created new businesses, and the town gained a Post Office and the "Wood and Sons" grocery store. The name of the town soon morphed to Woodson and that name was made official in 1903. The town grew significantly, to over two thousand during the railroad and oil boom, but the population was down to about four hundred when a 1948 tornado destroyed about thirty homes. During WWII a rancher discovered a "balloon bomb" in a field north of Woodson, one of thousands launched by the Japanese to start fires along the Pacific Coast. Today the economics of Woodson revolve around farming and ranching.

To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible.

A description of your Post Office is required, such as when it was built, history, outstanding or unique features, population of the city or town, just do a quick internet search and find an interesting bit of information about the city or town and add it to the long description, to make it more interesting. Even just adding in the population of the area can give others an idea of how many people this post office serves. This description should be at least three sentences.

If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
Including your gps device in the picture is not necessary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable.
