The city of Durham has a bi-annual Lumiere festival where a number of illuminated art installations are installed for a weekend in the month of November.

The festival is highly popular and attracts many visitors to the city.

This heron sculpture was erected as a permanent feature in 2018 ready for the Lumiere festival that was going to be held in 2019. It was erected to celebrate the fact that the date of the 2019 festival was 10 years since the event started.

The sculpture represents a snapshot in time and shines in soft luminescence, as if captured in a camera flash. The sculpture celebrates the beauty of nature in the heart of the City.
