"Santa Fe is a Spanish town and municipality located in the central-western part of the Vega de Granada region, in the province of Granada, autonomous community of Andalusia.
In its beginnings it was a military camp that occupied an area of ??approximately 48 hectares planned by the Catholic Monarchs for the final assault on the Nasrids of the Kingdom of Granada. Starting in 1490, in two years, the city sent a contingent of master builders to the war, who were in charge of raising a quarter of the wall of Santa Fe, a newly built town as a base for war operations.
The city is laid out based on the map of Briviesca, in the province of Burgos. This urban planning will have significance in Latin America later on, since the new foundations of the New World were planned imitating the checkerboard order of Santa Fe."
