The Lucena City Council placed this bust of Yosef ben Mair in his memory as a priest of the town of Lucena.

"Yosef ben Meir Ha-Levi ibn Megas (Seville, 1077-Lucena, 1141), was a rabbi, philosopher and poet born during the Taifa of Seville and who lived through the Almoravid invasion of al-Andalus.

Yosef ben Meir was born in Seville in 1077, during the rule of King al-Mutamid (r. 1069-1090) of the Taifa of Seville and his mother tongue was Arabic. Some authors have speculated that the nickname Migash was added, equivalent to great or important. He was a member of one of the most noble families in the area. He was the son of Meir Migash, a prominent rabbi of great wisdom and social influence, who lived in Seville. His grandfather, Yoseph ibn Migash (Yoseph had the same name as his grandfather, a common tradition of the Jewish people) was also a rabbi and had a very important role in the royal court of the taifa of Granada."
