Kleverlaan Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Haarlem and perhaps one of Haarlem's best-kept secrets. Landscape architect J.D. was responsible for the first design. Zocher, then his son and landscape architect L.A. Springer took over. It is a park with winding paths, lush greenery, ancient trees, ponds and other water features.
On the Kleverlaan are the graves of numerous famous Haarlem residents, including father and son Zocher, skating champion Jaap Eden, writer and painter Jacobus van Looy and animation filmmaker Gerrit van Dijk. There are several characteristic buildings at the Kleverlaan cemetery, including the mausoleum. The other buildings in the cemetery are the Jewish house, the Catholic chapel and the stonemason's house.
Historical walking route
Kleverlaan Cemetery Park is also open for walks. There is a historical walking route available: De Bolwerken Voorbij, a circular walk in Haarlem North. You can also ask for a tour. You can contact the cemetery manager for this.
