The Teutonic Order Castle was started on the stables of Mainau Castle, which was demolished in the 18th century, based on the designs of Johann Caspar Bagnato (Giovanni Gaspare Bagnato) and under his construction supervision in 1739 and was completed after seven years of construction. This three-wing baroque palace was designed around a courtyard and a terraced garden on the side. On the central projection of the western part there is a large coat of arms of the Grand Master Clemens August of Bavaria, the Land Commander Philipp von Froberg and the Mainau Commander Friedrich von Baden. There is a Teutonic coat of arms on the east gable (sea side). The castle is still the residence of the count's family today. You can tell whether the count's family is present by the count's flag, which is hoisted on the castle roof. The private rooms are in the north wing, i.e. to the left of the castle courtyard, in the inaccessible part of the castle. The centerpiece is the former audience hall, the so-called “White Hall” decorated in white and gold, which received its current appearance in 1883. It is only open to the public during concerts or special events. Temporary exhibitions are shown in the middle wing. In the south wing there is a café with a terrace under the tall palm trees of the castle terrace. The palm house is immediately adjacent to the south wing.
