"Six kilometers from Lucena, at the top of the Sierra de Aras, stands the Sanctuary of María Santísima de Araceli. Lands of five provinces and more than thirty towns are offered to the eyes of the visitor from this privileged balcony of nature in the geographical center of Andalusia, one of the most beautiful Spanish landscapes, in the words of Don Camilo José Cela.

The hermitage was built at the beginning of the 19th century. XVII and its interior highlights a showy hemispherical plasterwork dome and the main altarpiece, made in 1699, which frames the mouth of one of the most lavish dressing rooms in the province, whose first section, under an elliptical dome, was made at the end of the century. XVII, according to the design of Leonardo Antonio de Castro. It houses inside the image of María Santísima de Araceli, raised on a throne of gold carving and jasper, the work of the sculptor and altarpiece painter Pedro de Mena Gutiérrez.

The exit from the dressing room leads to the Araceli souvenir shop, installed on the site of the old inn, where a votive tombstone, bulls and privileges of the brothers of Our Lady of Araceli are preserved. The Sanctuary has a picnic area on two terraces, several resting places, a reception room for pilgrims equipped with audiovisual equipment, a hall of arches for celebrations, the old restored shipyards and a typical inn where you can taste the magnificent mountain cuisine. Three crosses, as the end of the Via-Crucis that borders the path up, are silhouetted against the horizons of the fertile fields of Andalusia. "The Sierra de Aras is an extraordinary place for sporting activities such as hiking or paragliding, and its scenic interest is impressive."
