This band shell was constructed in 1987, sponsored in part by the Telford-Souderton Rotary club. It is named for Maurice W. Foulke, who was superintendent of the music department of the Souderton Area School District for 44 years before retiring in 1973. After retiring, he taught string instruments in the school district for 10 years. He also taught at his home most of his life.
Foulke was also founder of the Bux-Mont Band, a string band comprised of students in Bucks and Montgomery counties.
This bandshell is unique in its' design. You will see from the main photo a lot of open space, as in no walls. While having 3 walls is a requirement for the category, the day I was there there were no walls.
But wait....
There are mechanisms in place to move sliding walls in place to allow for sound amplification and direction as is expected for a bandshell. These are sliding doors on tracks on the outside walls. There will be a photo.
So, you have a bandshell that is actually called a bandshell in city literature, but the walls are mobile to allow for all sorts of specified sound projection.
This Bandshell is the home of Souderton's "Concert Sundaes." I will leave it up to you to guess what days those occur.
