"This is the monastic Church of the old Monastery of Tenorio , whose first historical reference appears in a document from the Monastery of Lérez from 1073, in which the abbot of Tenorio appears as a confirmatory.
At the end of the 15th century, Pedro Madruga changed the abbot of Tenorio for a monk from the Monastery of Lérez (Pontevedra), which caused the monks to abandon the Monastery of Tenorio for not complying with the appointment. Later the Monastery was a refuge for the guerrillas during the War of Independence and was partially destroyed when it was set on fire by the French army, but the final abandonment occurred after the confiscation of Mendizábal.
Of the old Romanesque architecture of the Tenorio Monastery, of the Benedictine order, only the southwest part of the church and some pieces such as the Agnus Dei or the rose window on the façade are preserved.
The church dates back to the 18th century, built on top of the previous one."
